At NPC Amusements, we think of ourselves as the experts on darts, so we’ve put together a few tips for choosing the perfect dartboard.

• Dartboard materials.
  
  Most dartboards are made from a durable, dense, all-natural material called sisal. This material with unique “self-healing” abilities — sisal literally seals the holes after the dart is removed from the dartboard! We recommend sisal for a long-lasting dartboard that will survive frequent use and tournament play.

• Dartboard wiring.
  
  The wiring separates the central area of the dartboard from the outer one and should be set up to minimise bounce-outs. Thinner triangle wires will improve your chances of hitting the target, or blade wiring removes the need for staples and reduces the wire thickness.
  
  You should also look for dartboards without staples because staples can increase the chances of bounce-outs.

• Dartboard depth.
  
  A thicker dartboard is recommended to reduce the risk of bounce-outs. A good depth will help the darts penetrate the dartboard, encourage a more consistent game and even help boost your score!

• The bullseye.
  
  We recommend looking for a bladed bullseye to ensure your darts sink into the sisal, secure your win and eliminate bounce-outs.

• Mounting.
  
  Your dartboard should sit flush against the wall — no tiling or instability. With this in mind, make sure to choose a dartboard that comes with an appropriate mounting system.
• Inks.
  
  Look for dartboards that come with high-quality inks! The ink will help the darts sink into the sisal easily, reduce flare, and improve your accuracy.

FAQs about our range of dartboards for sale 

• How high should a dartboard be mounted?
  
  If you’re playing by international rules, the distance between the floor and the middle of the bullseye should be five feet, eight inches (or 1.73 metres). This is the same for both electronic and steel-tip dartboards. We recommend measuring and mounting the dartboard before measuring the throw line.
  
  Remember to mount the dartboard with the number 20 at the top!

• How high should I mount the dartboard for wheelchair users?
  
  The official dartboard height for players who use wheelchairs is four feet, six inches (or 1.37 metres). The throwing distance should be the same as players who do not use a wheelchair.

• How far should the throwline be from the dartboard?
  
  If you’re playing by international rules, the dartboard should be seven feet, 9.25 inches (or 2.37 metres) from the Oche (the throwline). This is the same for all players.

• How do I protect my darts from bounce-outs?
  
  If you’re setting up a new dartboard, we recommend investing in a durable rubber dart mat to minimise the risk of bounce-out damage for your darts. Crash-landing on a stone, tile or concrete floor can be very damaging for your darts, but a dart mat can reduce the impact and keep your darts sharp and ready to play.
  
  A dart mat is also recommended for carpet flooring. You might end up walking to and from the dartboard hundreds of times in a single game, and over time, this can wear down the carpet. A dart mat will keep the carpet fresh and intact!
